SAINTS PLANET LEAGUE CUP AND THEO WALCOTT

In April 2023 Southampton FC teamed up with their energy sponsors Utilta to run the Saints Planet League - a tournament to find the greenest Southampton fan. It was the first time one of our tournaments brought together a club and one of its commercial partners.

Southampton have been real pioneers on football club sustainability - they launched their Halo Effect programme in 2020 to give a proper framework to sustainability action, rather than just taking ad hoc measures.

Their projects have included measures to cut single-use plastic, promoting park and ride and car-free transport, a tree-planting initiative called Home Grown, beach cleaning and taking part in Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust’s Team Wilder project to promote biodiversity, and running a “greener game” around the match v Arsenal on Earth Day 2022. As well as taking part in several Planet League tournaments and Green Football Weekend!
