FIBA Foundation

In June 2023 Planet League and FIBA Foundation launched the first-ever Basketball For Good Cup, a seven-week climate action tournament for the Foundation’s Youth Leaders and European Youth Championships.

The aim behind the Cup was to demonstrate the potential of engaging basketball supporters in sustainable living through the platform using the power of competition. It aimed to use the power and universal language of basketball to unite people to address ecological challenges.

Youth Leaders took green actions to score green points and climb a league table, whilst also engaging the participants of the events across Europe.

Actions include things that could be done during the European Youth Championship events, covering transport, food and recycling, but also activities linked to everyday lives, travel, food, energy, waste, outdoors, and more.

Participants uploaded a photo of their action to the platform, to score points and climb the league table, with great up for grabs,

"We are very happy to work with Planet League to further accompany and motivate the Youth Leaders along their journey of creating social impact in their respective countries. We see this journey continuing beyond this summer and working collaboratively to ensure sustainable Basketball For Good projects"
