Actual size, roughly.
A nurdle is about 5 mm across.
17 tonnes
of plastic nurdles washing up on the North East coast
Why it matters
Small as a lentil. Deadly to seabirds.
-
Nurdles are the raw pellets that plastic products are made from.
-
Seabirds and fish mistake them for food.
-
They hide in the sand and in the seaweed - every handful picked up makes a difference.
The tournament
Four weeks. Four rounds. One trophy.
How the table works
RulesEach week your club faces a rival drawn at random, Champions League style. The club with more goals that week wins the fixture. Most points after four rounds lifts the North East Nurdle Trophy.
