Amy Turner is a Tottenham Hotspur defender, and a Planet League Ambassador. She was born in Sheffield and has played for Manchester United, Liverpool, Lincoln Ladies, Notts County, Sheffield, Leeds United, Doncaster Rovers Belles and Orlando Pride. She has also played for the England national team.

Amy is passionate about biodiversity and nature, plastic pollution, fast fashion and  educating and inspiring the next generation to connect with the climate.

 campaign, she even had a hand in the design of the Cup, currently sat in Manchester United’s museum.

“I'm very passionate about protecting the future of our planet and over recent years I've been trying to live a more sustainable life and taking steps to reduce my own impact and also influence those around me. That's why I'm super excited to be joining Planet League as an Ambassador.”

We are delighted to be working with Amy and she’s going to be sharing lots more over the coming months.

Amy Turner becomes a Planet League Ambassador

In April 2023 Southampton FC teamed up with their energy sponsors Utilta to run the Saints Planet League - a tournament to find the greenest Southampton fan. It was the first time one of our tournaments brought together a club and one of its commercial partners.

Southampton have been real pioneers on football club sustainability - they launched their 

 programme in 2020 to give a proper framework to sustainability action, rather than just taking ad hoc measures.

Their projects have included measures to cut single-use plastic, promoting park and ride and car-free transport, a tree-planting initiative called Home Grown, beach cleaning and taking part in Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust’s Team Wilder project to promote biodiversity, and running a “greener game” around the match v Arsenal on Earth Day 2022. As well as taking part in several Planet League tournaments and Green Football Weekend!

Saints Planet League Cup and Theo Walcott

Funzo Ojo is a Port Vale midfielder and vice-captain, and a Planet League ambassador. He moved to the UK from his native Belgium in 2017. He played for Scunthorpe, Aberdeen and Wigan and is now at Port Vale.

He’s a bit of a climate nut - led the charge for Port Vale in this year’s Green Football Weekend, completing 260 actions and saving 500kg. Sterling work for a few weeks of dedicated greenery. That was February.

That’s what it takes to be a professional footballer: focus and dedication, right? Ok, and talent and so on.

Actually, like living greener. You’ve got to stick at it, work at it. You’re not a Messi overnight, you’re not a Greta overnight (even if you want to be one).

We were over the moon when Funzo agreed to be a Planet League ambassador. He’s going to help us get the word out, while setting an example to his fans and bugging his teammates to trade down their cars to bikes 🙂

We asked him where he got the climate bug from. He said:

“I have always been fascinated by recycling ever since my mum explained it to me when i was younger. As I got older I started looking more into what actually happens when we do recycle and when we don’t and what the effects of those actions are.

“The Earth is beautiful but more and more we see and feel the effects of climate change. I believe if we all get a bit more knowledgeable and do our best to protect it we can make a change."
